Year 2 2021 - 2022
Year 2 Teacher
Year 2 Teacher
Welcome to Year 2!
We are really looking forward to working with you and your children over the next year.
The teachers in Year 2 are Mrs Birtwistle (2NB) and Miss Crouch (2EC). Mrs Gauterin, Miss Thompson and Mrs Wishart-Terry are our fantastic teaching assistants. Mrs Barton is our trainee teacher in 2NB and Miss Thompson is also doing her teacher training in 2EC. On Tuesdays Mrs Gatiss will be teaching Spanish and Mr Cairns will teach us P E.
A few reminders:
Homework: At the moment we are just focusing on reading as it is such an important skill to have. Children should read their phonics reading book as well as any other books they are interested in. The more they read or listen to you read, the better! Reading is the gateway to learning! In a couple of weeks time, there will be Spelling and Maths homework sent home on alternate weeks. There will also still be Numbots to do whenever you like.
Reading: The children will bring home their reading folder containing a phonics reading book and diary every Monday. Please keep this at home during the week and send it back to school on Friday. Children are expected to read at least three times per week for about 10 minutes. Please write a comment or sign each time your child reads at home. We will check the number of times your child has read and if they have read at least three times then they will be given a new book for the next week. Children will work with a teacher as part of a small group to focus on reading skills once per week.
PE. Children will need pumps/trainers, shorts and t shirt for summer and long PE trousers and warm long sleeved top for the winter. No football kits please. Please name everything! Both classes have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should come ready dressed in their PE kit on these days.
Water: Children are encouraged to bring in a bottle of water each day which they can access at any time (within reason). The water fountains are not in use due to covid restrictions. Please ensure your child’s name is on their bottle.
Snack: KS1 children are provided with a piece of fruit at morning playtime. If you would like to send in your own snack then please make sure it is healthy. No chocolate, crisps or sweets please. We are a nut and kiwi free school.
Our first topic is 'The Great Fire of London'. This is always a very interesting topic and hopefully you will be amazed at the knowledge your children will be able to tell you about it.
Please contact email@example.com if you need to ask us anything.
