Hello and welcome to the second half of the Autumn Term. We have exciting plans for our learning over the next few weeks in Year 2.
The teachers in Year 2 are Mrs Birtwistle (2NB), Mrs Graham - Monday and Tuesday and Miss Wheeler - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (2GW). Miss Thompson, Mrs Adlington, Mrs Gordon, Miss Gallimore and Mrs Gauterin are our fantastic teaching assistants and Miss Bugg is our assosiate teacher working in 2NB. On Wednesdays Mrs Gatiss will be teaching Spanish and Mr Cairns will teach us P E.
A few reminders:
Homework: At the moment we are focusing on reading as it is such an important skill to have. Children can read their phonics reading book as well as any other books they are interested in. The more they read or listen to you read, the better! There is a maths fluency grid sent home on alternate Fridays. This is to be completed and then handed in the following Friday. On the other Friday we send home some spellings to learn. If you would like to do more with your child there is a weekly MyMaths task and you can use Times Table Rockstars.
Reading: The children will bring home a reading folder containing a phonics reading book and diary every Monday. Please keep this at home during the week and send it back to school on Friday. Children are expected to read their phonics book at least three times per week for 10 minutes. Please write a comment or sign each time your child reads at home. We will check the number of times your child has read and if they have read at least three times then they will be given a new book for the next week. We will write in the reading diaries once a week.
PE. Children will need pumps/trainers, shorts and t shirt for summer and long PE trousers and warm long sleeved top for the winter. No football kits please. Please name everything! Both classes have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Water: Children are allowed to bring in a bottle of water each day which they can access at any time. Please ensure your child’s name is on their bottle.
Snack: KS1 children are provided with a piece of fruit at morning playtime. If you would like to send in your own snack then please make sure it is healthy. No chocolate or sweets please. We are a nut and kiwi free school.
Pencil Cases: We have provided every child with a pencil case containing everything they need but if you would prefer, your child is allowed to bring a small, plain pencil case to school. This should only contain basic equipment. Please no gel pens/felt tips etc.
Our topic for this term is 'The Great Fire of London'. We are really excited to start learning about this! If you do any extra work at home about this then why not send us a photo via our email address?
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you need to ask us anything.
