4MH - Mr Harris with the support of Mrs Rhodes

In Year Four, we aim to teach a broad and balanced curriculum whilst ensuring the children are happy and safe. The children will experience various topics, trips and experiences throughout Year Four.

This term we are starting our whole school One World journey, with a focus on our local area. Our first topic is 'Romans'. Please click on the link below to find out all about the Autumn term in Year 4.

Things to remember:

Homework/Reading: The children are expected to read at least three times per week for 10 minutes and are able to change their reading book in the mornings. Please write a comment in your child's reading records each time they read with you. In addition to reading, every Tuesday, the children will be set an activity on MyMaths/ (alternate weeks) to be completed for the following Monday. It is an expectation that the children know all of the times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. Therefore, they will be given times table practise each week too.

Timestable check: At the end of Year Four, all children will complete a Times Table Check set by the government. This is completed in school, on a computer, and requires the children to know their times tables up to 12 x 12. It is a timed check in which the children have 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question. We will be focussing on our times tables in school however, practising at home will also be beneficial for the children.

PE: Mr Cairns will be teaching PE on a Tuesday morning. The children will also have an additional PE lesson on Thursday afternoons which is led by Miss Dryhurst/Mr Harris. Please make sure the children have their kit every Tuesday and Thursday.

Mrs Gatiss will be teaching Year 4 Spanish on a Tuesday.

Water Bottles: We encourage the children to bring a water bottle each day. Please ensure it is only water.  If your child is having a packed lunch, please send a separate drink.

Class Assembly: Your child will be involved in a class assembly once every half term. You will be notified of the dates on the whole school newsletter.

Make sure you keep an eye out on our Twitter page for tweets about your child's learning throughout the school day.

We are very much looking forward to getting to know you and your chidlren over the next year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us at the end of the day.
