Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Welcome to Hartford Primary School's Modern Forgein Languages page!
At Hartford Primary School, we believe that the learning of a language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our children. It helps them to develop communication skills, including key skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The linguistic skills they gain will assist and lay foundations for further language learning, providing pupils with the confidence and independence to explore and be able to attempt manipulation of the structure of language. Learning another language gives children a new and broader perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.
Spanish is taught for 40 minutes a week in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, for 20 minutes a week in Year 1 and for an hour in Year 2 every other week.
This half term, we are learning classroom comands, colours and the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish. We will be learning how to ask what day and month it is and give a reply. We are really focussing on the pronunciation of our vocabulary, as even though some words look similar to English words they can sound very different!
Below, you can find the topics we will be covering this year and some of the songs we are currently sing to learn in Spanish, so your child can enjoy practising them at home!
