Welcome to Year Four!
4JO - Mrs Oldfield
4MH - Mr Harris
In Year Four, we aim to teach a broad and balanced curriculum whilst ensuring the children are happy and safe. The children will experience various topics, trips and experiences throughout Year Four.
Things to remember:
Homework/Reading: The children are expected to read at least three times per week for 10 minutes and are able to change their reading book in the mornings. Please write a comment in your child's reading records each time they read with you. In addition to reading, the children will be set a fluency maths grid every fortnight and a maths and/or English activity every week. It is an expectation that the children know all of the times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. Therfore, each child is expected to use TTRockstars to practise these at home.
Timestable check: At the end of Year Four, all children will complete a Times Table Check set by the government. This is completed in school, on a computer, and requires the children to know their times tables up to 12 x 12. It is a timed check in which the children have 6 seconds to answer each multiplication question. We will be focussing on our times tables in school however, practising at home will also be beneficial for the children.
PE: Mr Cairns will be teaching PE on a Wednesday afternoon. The children will also have an additional PE lesson on Friday which is led by Mrs Oldfield/Mr Harris. Please make sure the children arrive at school in their PE kit on Wednesday and Friday.
Spanish will be tiaght on a Wednesday.
Water Bottles: We encourage the children to bring a water bottle each day. Please ensure it is only water. If your child is having a packed lunch, please send a separate drink.
Make sure you keep an eye out on our Twitter page for tweets about your child's learning throughout the school day.
We are very much looking forward to getting to know you and your chidlren over the next year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us at the end of the day.
