Welcome to our Year 5 page!
Year 5 is an important year as the children start their transition in to Upper Key Stage 2 and this helps prepare them for life in Year 6 and beyond!
Here in Year 5, we teach a broad and balanced curriculum and the children experience various fun topics, trips and experiences. In the autumn term we are looking at The Anglo Saxons. We ensure that all children will be fully immersed in a rich, creative and exciting curriculum and environment.
Things to remember:
Reading: The children are expected to read at least three times per week for 10 per minutes. Please write a comment in the children’s reading records each time to let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home. Children are also encouraged to write their own comments in their reading records, both in school and at home. Please could children have their reading records in their bag every day.
Spelling: Year 5 spend a great deal of time learning to spell the Year 5 and 6 National Curriculum word list. We hope you can support us in helping your child to use these words as often as possible in their speech and written work, spelt correctly. A copy of this and the Year 5 and 6 spelling list can be found using the links at the bottom of the page to support with spelling at home and homework.
PE: Mr Cairns will be teaching PE on a Tuesday morning. The children will also have an additional PE lesson on a Monday afternoon, which is led by the Year 5 teachers. Please make sure you wear your PE kit to school every Monday and Tuesday.
Water Bottles: We ask that children bring in a water bottle each day, please ensure it is only water. If your child is having a packed lunch, please send a separate drink. These must be labelled.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us at the end of the day.
